Global Collaborator
Global Collaborator ISTE S7a
The ISTE standard for these lesson is 7- Global Collaborator a. This standard has the students use digital tools to connect with learners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them in ways that broaden mutual understanding and learning.
I compiled the lesson to meet South Carolina ELA standard K.NS.7. for Kindergarten, along with the ISTE Standard. The SC Standard states: Student can determine whether the number of up to ten objects in one group is more than, less than, or equal to the number of up to ten objects in another group using matching and counting strategies.
This project will allow students to use technology to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others globally. The students will interact with another classroom in another country to solve math problems. Each class will work together to solve the math problems visiting class has creates for them via Skype. Each class will compile groups of different items (ex: blocks, easers, crayons) up to ten objects. Each class displays their objects on the screen and figures out which is equal to, less than, or more than using the different counting strategies they have learned in class. The students will write what the object is and the total number of the object. Then place them in order of least to most. Then use the terms of less than, equal to, and/or less than. Once the classes have answered the question(s) they will discuss which counting strategies they used. If the class speaks a different language the student will discuss how they pronounce their numbers and write their answers.

You will count the
objects and show your answers:
Answers:
We placed them in
order from least to most:
Pencils: 4 - Four
Pencils: 4 - Four
Scissors: 6 -Six
Balls: 8 - Eight
Crayons: 9 - Nine
Tiles: 10-Ten
There are more
tiles than any other object.
There are less
pencils than scissors, balls, crayons and tiles.
There are more balls than
scissors and pencils.
There are more crayons than balls, scissor, and pencils.

Global Collaborator ISTE S7c
The ISTE standard for these lesson is 7- Global
Collaborator c. This standard has the students contribute
constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to
work effectively toward a common goal.
I compiled the lesson to meet South Carolina ELA standard K.NS.4b.
for Kindergarten, along with the ISTE Standard. The SC Standard
states: The students will understand the relationship between numbers and
quantity. Connect counting to cardinally by demonstrating an
understanding that the number of objects is the same regardless of their
arrangement or the order in which they are counted (conservation of numbers).
This project will allow students to assume different
roles and responsibilities while they contribute constructively in completing
the project. The class will be divided into groups of three. Each student will have 2 attempts to be an Oreo
cookie stacker. Students will place one cookie on the paper plate and
add one cookie at a time to the stack. The cookies cannot be adjusted after you place it down. One student will be the note taker and
another student in the group will be the counter, counts the number of
cookies student stacks. If the cookie or
cookies fall off the stack it called a “tumble” and it’s the next person’s
turn. When a tumble occurres, the
student needs to make sure their stack count is recorded. Once all students and
teacher record their stack totals, you will add up all largest cookie stack
attempts from each person, and divide by amount of people who have stacked to
determine average length stacked. The
teacher will help with dividing because it’s an advanced math skill. The teacher will submit the class average
length stacked via the online form.

This
is a map depicting the different countries involved in the project
You
will pick up the Oreo cookies and stack them
The
counter is to keep track of how many Oreos are stacked
Continue
to stack the cookies as high as you can go
Remember
if you drop it you cannot pick it up you are finished. Have note take write down you total.
Great Job!!
Have you total recorded
Now
you will switch roles while with your teammates
Once
every teammate has a turn hand in your totals to the teacher 😊
